Chocolate Hedgehog
This was a fantastic cake.
I was heartbroken when we ate it!
The chocolate buttons looked fantastic, although I had trouble not eating every other one!
Shaping the head was a pain as I would drag chunks of the icing back, ruining the effect.
I have to say it did not taste as good as it looked, but it was most definatly chocolaty!
Yep, Nibbler strikes again!
I thought it would look cute, the hamster next to the hedgehog.
As you can tell from the blurred photo I had to step in quick, Nibbler ate 3 of those chocolate buttons!!!
He was running laps around his cage all night, the noisy little blighter! Talk about sugar rush!!!
Hi, I LOVE your cake-just wondering how you made the basic shape? was there a specific cake pan to use?
Hi Jas,
Well, I used a very old Cadbury’s cookbook. They called it a pudding basin cake. I made the mixture as needed and then put it in a 1.2 litre/2 pint pyrex bowl. I would recommend greasing with lots of butter before hand. I then cooked it for 1 hour 15mins at 180c/350f/gas mark 4. Once cooked I then got it out the bowl, with lots of worrying that it would stick! Then I had to cut it in half and stick the two pieces back together in a flatter shape for a hedgehog!
I will make a new one in the future and photograph the stages, so keep coming back. It is the same method to make the bonfire and robin cakes!
Thanks

Hello, just wondering, do you sell your cakes?
Hi Jaz,
Nope, I only make my cakes for special occasions. If I had the time I might, but I would struggle at the mo. Hoping you are asking cuz you think they are good enough to sell!! (“,)
I don’t have a website. Just love trying to do cakes. My son likes snakes and his fiancee just got a hedgehog, so this would be perfect for her. Maybe I can make one, but don’t know if it will look as cute as your. Thanks for sharing it. Debbie
